Helen Mirren: I dress up for work

Dame Helen Mirren

Dame Helen Mirren enjoyed the low-maintenance aspect of a voice role, but still liked to look "the part".

The actress voices Dean Hardscrabble in the new family film Monsters University.

Despite not appearing on screen at all, Helen couldn't resist making an effort while recording her scenes.

"It's so great not to have to get up at five in the morning for hair and make-up," she admitted to the British edition of OK! magazine.

"And also not to be fiddled with all day long! Although, having said that, I do like to dress for the part. So I might well have been wearing heels while recording my scenes!"

Last month Helen stepped out for the Shanghai International Film Festival in China.

She looked amazing in an orange dress with blue flowers and a matching floaty shawl.

While the 67-year-old may look preened to perfection, she doesn't always get things spot on.

“Keep it clean – keep the lines clean. I don’t have an impeccable sense of style. I often get it horribly wrong,” she admitted in an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine.

“But when you look at people who know what they’re doing, it’s often very clean with one very amazing thing.”
