Helena Bonham Carter: I can't envision outfits

Helena Bonham Carter shocks herself when her fashion ensembles turn out completely different to what she wanted the "end product" to be.

The actress prefers to shun the conventional glamorous and put-together styles of her fellow Hollywood stars in favour of an ultra-quirky red carpet style.

Helena admits that her wardrobe choices are a "disaster", but rarely has the ability to envision the look she wants to create.

"Sometimes I see the end product and think, 'Jesus, that's not what I meant at all,'" she laughed in an interview with Style magazine.

Helena has been dating filmmaker Tim Burton since 2001, and the pair have son Billy Raymond and daughter Nell together.

The 45-year-old star was filming 2007's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street when she found out she was pregnant with Nell. Helena was only made aware of her pregnancy when the film's costume designer pointed out that her breasts had "exploded. Like, hell-o".

Helena has previously spoken of her style tying in with her confidence issues.

"I just thought I'd never look good in what everybody else wore. So there's no point trying. You just have to do what suits you, and it doesn't matter if you don't look like everybody else. Be you. That's our gift and we've got to celebrate that, but it does take ages," she explained. "I was wracked with self-doubt for years. I get spasms of it even now - I'm not indelibly self-confident."
