Hilary Duff: Disheveled fashion is my style

Hilary Duff is used to stepping out in stained clothing.

The actress-and-singer is a style icon for many and is currently impressing fans by bagging a selection of magazine covers. Not only is she gracing the front of Elle US's December issue, but she's also looking toned for Health magazine.

On the cover of the lifestyle publication Hilary wears a glitzy black crop top and tiny coral hot pants. But day-to-day, she prefers to keep things casual.

"I really like Raquel Allegra for everyday. She makes great little cashmere sweaters that have, like, little torn bits," she revealed in the accompanying interview.

"I'm slightly dishevelled in every area of my life. I love distressed stuff. I like things to look well-loved, you know? But if I'm going to an event, I probably don't want a baby stain on me. [Laughs] I'm usually working with, like, two stains at a time. Three, I'll change my shirt."

The 27-year-old gave birth to baby Luca with her estranged husband Mike Comrie in March 2012. She took a year and a half to get back into shape, going slowly with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

She still worries her body isn't "good enough" and works hard at the gym to stay on top of her fitness.

Having grown up as a Disney star Hilary has been exposed to the spotlight from a very young age. Looking back, she wishes she hadn't pushed her teenage body to fit a certain mould.

"When I was 17, I weighed, like, 98 pounds. I was totally obsessed with everything I put in my mouth. I was way too skinny. Not cute," she admitted.

"And my body wasn't that healthy - my hands would cramp up a lot because I wasn't getting the nutrition I needed. That constant pressure of wanting something different than I had? I regret that. I feel like there was way too much time spent thinking about that."

Now, she loves her "athletic" body and the fact that it saw her through such a healthy pregnancy with little Luca.
