Jamie Hince: I feel awkward in the front row
Jamie Hince feels "awkward" in the front row of fashion shows.
Despite being married to Kate Moss, the musician still isn't entirely at ease with the fashion industry.
The Kills rocker admitted that while some of his friends are iconic fashion creatives, he isn't crazy about the sartorial scene.
"Sometimes I feel like, 'What am I doing here?' What am I doing sitting on the front row of a Stella McCartney show?' She is my friend, and her dad was in the Beatles. You can tell I'm a bit awkward about it. I feel a bit uncomfortable about where the whole fashion and music thing came from, really," he told British publication GQ.
Jamie's understanding of the visual appeal of fashion stems from music artwork.
He often discovered new bands because he was attracted to the record covers.
The 43-year-old added that once you take away the chaos of Fashion Week, industry parties are just like any other show.
"No bands played anywhere near us [when I was younger], so as much as I wanted to be on the grid and in the loop I never was. I'd hitchhike into town and spend all day at the record shop. I didn't even know what the bands sounded like, so I'd buy records on the strength of the artwork. That's when I realised that music and fashion were pretty closely linked," he said. "I think that's why fashion is in my psyche, although obviously Fashion Week is a far cry from that. We were at New York Fashion Week because we happened to be in New York and we were invited to play at a Marc Jacobs party. A party's a party, isn't it? And I like Marc Jacobs. He came to my wedding."
