The singer had to prepare to dazzle at the fashion awards ceremony by walking in her eye-catching jumpsuit.

The glittering designer jumpsuit Jennifer Hudson modelled at the CFDA Awards featured over a million Swarovski crystals which took over 1,000 hours to apply by hand.

The singer/actress changed out of the black-and-red strapless Prabal Gurung gown she wore on the red carpet and dazzled in the custom, off-the-shoulder cape-sleeve outfit by KaufmanFranco as she performed her tribute to Prince, and now sources have told just how much work went into creating the one-off piece for Monday's (06Jun16) ceremony in New York City.

The ensemble was covered in 1,692,000 Swarovski gems, almost eight times more than the 216,000 crystals which decorated Rihanna's sheer Adam Selman design at the 2014 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards.

Swarovski bosses have also revealed it took a team of 13 people in eight different countries to stick each individual stone onto the jumpsuit, which Jennifer paired with matching glitter heels.

"It's heavy, but it's still moveable, luckily," she explained while speaking to reporters at the event. "It takes some training. You have to take a minute to walk in it to pace yourself - how it moves and how to move in it and how to wear it."

Jennifer was reunited with her former Dreamgirls co-star Beyonce at the annual awards show, during which the superstar was honoured with the CFDA Fashion Icon award.

"It was beautiful," Jennifer told after the presentation. "I was so happy to be here to see her have that moment. It was so well-deserved."

CFDA officials announced Beyonce's prize and her presence at the ceremony itself, instead of revealing the recipient of the Fashion Icon accolade ahead of time, as they have in previous years.

The Formation singer stunned the audience in a sparkling Givenchy suit and wide-brimmed hat as she was presented with the fashion title by CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg, who branded the singer "today's biggest superstar".

During her emotional acceptance speech, Beyonce made sure to thank her designer mother, Tina Knowles, for helping to create ensembles for her and her former bandmates in Destiny's Child.

"When we were starting out in Destiny's Child, high-end labels, they didn't want to dress four black, country, curvy girls," Beyonce shared. "And we couldn't afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But... she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams.

"(My mother and her uncle Johnny) designed all of our first costumes and made each piece by hand ... putting so much passion and love into every small detail. When I wore these clothes on stage I felt like (Game of Thrones character) Khaleesi; I had an extra suit of armour. It was so much deeper than any brand name."
