Jess Simpson's sophisticated new scent

Jessica Simpson got to "have the reins" and take control of her upcoming fragrance.

The 33-year-old already has 14 perfumes to her name after joining forces with the founder of the Clean line, Randi Shinder, in 2004 before partnering with Parlux fragrances in 2008. But while her earlier scents have names like Dreamy Dessert, Fancy and Juicy Dessert, her next fragrance will be more refined.

"We were just throwing out different ideas and different names, and I said, ‘Why don’t we do something with just my name?’ There has to be a way to just do that because we’re doing it in the rest of our business," she explained to WWD. "When it’s just my name, my heart is definitely in it. There were things about this fragrance that took me to a different place. It was exciting. It’s more sophisticated. It’s a little mature.”

The floral gourmand fragrance will launch in August. But with her mother, business partner and brand consigliore Tina dealing with some family issues, Jessica was able to take charge of her product for the first time, and she loved it.

"It was a fun meeting because I got to have the reins, and I really got to control it and do what I wanted to do," she said.

Jessica has two children, Maxwell, two, and Ace, 11 months, with fiancé Eric Johnson. She hopes her new fragrance will be something the children remember from their childhood.

"[The fragrance] is a mixture of everything that I grew up loving. I am one of those people that part of who I am is doing a lot of reminiscing," she said. "It’s also definitely looking forward, so it’s kind of combining those two different elements and where I’m at right now [and where I was]. If [the children] reminisce about certain moments of their lives, I want them to one day be able to reminisce about me and be like, that’s what Mom smelled like.”
