Jessie J trades sleek locks for cornrows
Jessie J has unveiled her new cornrowed hairdo, just days after Kylie Jenner caused controversy with her version of the style.
The 27-year-old singer posted a shot of her braided locks on the social networking site Thursday.
In the shot, Jessie is seen with her raven hair tied back in tight plaits as she smiles into the camera.
The reaction to the picture has so far been overwhelmingly positive, with fans complimenting Jessie on her makeover.
The comments she has received are in sharp contrast to statements made to Kylie Jenner when she unveiled her version of the style.
Kylie caused controversy when she showed off her fresh look over the weekend.
In her selfie, the 17-year-old reality star is seen pouting into a mirror while wearing a crop top and jogging bottoms to leave the full attention on her locks.
“I woke up like disss,” Kylie captioned the shot.
However, Instagram users were quick to slam Kylie for inappropriately taking on the hairstyle, with many of them accusing her of being racist.
One such comment came from The Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg, who is rumoured to be dating Kylie’s close friend Jaden Smith.
“When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter (sic),” Amandla tweeted with regards to Kylie’s picture.
“Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something (sic),” Kylie responded.
Justin Bieber, who is a close friend of the Jenner/Kardashian clan, then weighed in on the scandal.
“Guys leave her alone, we're all trying to figure it out and she happens to be under a microscope!" Justin wrote. "I'm the first to know this. But saying she's being racist because she wants her hair in braids is ridiculous. Let's focus on the bigger picture and instead of fighting over something stupid let's do something about equality, but it doesn't start here blasting a 17 year old kid for wearing braids smh (shake my head).”
