Jillian Dempsey, who has created a series of memorable make-up looks for Hollywood stars, has shared the best beauty tips given to her by actresses such as Kate Winslet.

Celebrity make-up artist Jillian Dempsey says Kate Winslet would make an “amazing” beauty technician.

The expert is synonymous with Hollywood beauty and has worked with a host of leading ladies, including Oscar-winning actress Kate, Kirsten Dunst, Angela Bassett and Chloë Sevigny. Although Jillian is regarded as one of the most knowledgeable people in her field, she insists her clients have taught her a great deal about her craft.

“Kate would make one amazing make-up artist,” Jillian told “The woman is incredibly precise. Years ago, she pointed out a tiny indentation on the side of her nose and showed me how she covered it up with a tinted pore-minimising cream. It was like putty—a thick, matte spackle. Everyone has minuscule indentations on their face, whether scars or just natural irregularities, and this trick has really come in handy.”

Jillian has created a series of iconic beauty looks for A-list stars and has her own line of make-up products. Having spent years in the industry, she has fond memories of working with Sarah Jessica Parker when she was first starting out. The Sex and the City actress shared a top tip which has proved invaluable.

“One of my earliest jobs as a make-up artist was with Sarah Jessica, and she let me in on a great secret,” Jillian recalled. “When she wears mascara or false lashes, she applies it (or them) only to the middle of her upper and lower lashes. This makes her eyes look big and open. When you wear mascara or false lashes at the outer corners, the effect is sexy but can weigh on your eyes.”

The expert went on to reveal that Angela Bassett once recommended using a foundation with red undertones to avoid a chalky complexion. Jillian says the iconic actress also showed her that black skin doesn’t need a lot of foundation.
