Julianne Hough’s fiancé Brooks Laich supposedly spent eight months designing the perfect band to propose to her with.

Hockey player Brooks Laich recently popped the question to the 27-year-old actress-and-dancer, with Julianne announcing the exciting news on Tuesday.

And apparently Brooks spent the better part of a year designing the custom oval cut Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring, which features a more than six carat diamond.

“It’s such a beautiful stone,” an insider told Us Weekly magazine of the jewellery. “Brooks started working with Lorraine about eight months ago and it was really important to find the perfect stone that reflected Julianne's classically chic style.”

The happy couple were dating for just over a year and a half before becoming betrothed.

Safe Haven star Julianne and Canadian athlete Brooks love being active when they spend time together, even if there’s no real occasion to exercise.

“We love going on day dates or staying in,” she gushed to Women’s Health magazine previously. “He wants to dance so bad and literally wants me to teach him every single day so while we’re in the kitchen we’ll be dancing around with music playing.”

Although it’s unknown what type of wedding dress she’ll be going for, Julianne has spoken before about why she likes to get whimsical with her personal style.

The star might be sporting a whole new look when her nuptials finally arrive.

“I love to experiment with my looks by way of beauty products, styling tools and sometimes even taking things a step further – remember last year when I chopped off all my hair? It was a big, bold move but it was so worth it! It felt liberating not to hide behind all that hair,” she wrote in a blog post on her website JulianneHough.com. “So why did I decide on the colour pink this time? Because pink is the colour of kindness!”
