Kanye West dubbed this year’s ‘King of Shoes’
Footwear News believes Kanye West’s sneaker designs are the most impressive produced in 2015.
Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy Boost sneaker is the recipient of Footwear News’ Shoe of the Year Award.
The 38-year-old musician debuted his Yeezy 750 Boost high-tops at the Grammy Awards in February (15) and he released his Yeezy Boost 350 low-top designs this summer.
Kanye’s shoes were sold out almost immediately and the huge demand for his wares contributed to Footwear News’ decision to crown him as 2015’s ‘King of Shoes’.
“The sneaker releases dominated the market in 2015 as demand for the product crashed servers, sparked extraordinary resale value and created a need for mob control in stores,” Footwear News writes. “The Yeezy Boost 350 style, in particular — a low-cut version of the original, featuring a Primeknit upper — has been a huge hit across a wide swath of influencers, from sneakerheads to stars, fashionistas and a wildly devoted public.
“Hordes of consumers lined up for days to get their hands on the all-black pairs. And the forthcoming beige version, hitting in time for the holiday season, will continue to drive the phenomenal demand for the shoes.
“West’s connective power across multiple industries, combined with the giant force of his own fame — and his family’s — has propelled the silhouette’s media and retail dominance.”
Footwear News will host the 2015 FN Achievement Awards on 2 December in New York City. At the ceremony several other brands including Stuart Weitzman, Pierre Hardy, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Nike, Under Armour and Prada will be acknowledged for their contribution to shoe fashion.
Kanye presented his second Yeezy collection at New York Fashion Week in September (15), receiving mixed reviews for the beige and black collection.
And when asked what he thinks about his own designs, the musician admitted he is still a novice when it comes to fashion in many ways.
“I’m not trying to particularly give a design opinion,” he told Vanity Fair magazine. “I have friends who are designers who are so amazingly prolific that if I was even to try to step into that territory, I’d be completely crushed.”
