Karl Lagerfeld: I didn't expect to take photos
Karl Lagerfeld "never thought" he could be a photographer until he was "forced" into it.
Karl is best known for his fashion creations for Chanel, Fendi and his own label.
However, he has also been known to create incredible fashion images, which he started taking in the early 80s.
Following a recent exhibition of his photographs in the Salon de la Photo at Paris Expo, Karl explained how he came across photography by accident.
"I never thought I could be a photographer until I was literally pushed into it one day, when I urgently needed some photos for a press kit," Karl told Chanel.com.
Since then Karl has not looked back. He brings the same commitment and hard work to photography as he does to his fashion designs.
"In fashion as in photography, only perfection will do," he explained. "Photography is part of my life, I can't imagine life without its vision. I look at fashion and the world through the eye of the camera. This gives my basic work a critical detachment that helps me more than I could ever have imagined."
The designer also takes his time to choose his muses. He has photographed beauties including Claudia Schiffer, Freja Beha Erichsen, Anja Rubik, Lara Stone and actress Julianne Moore.
"I really take the time to choose my models," he revealed. "I don't think one should ever be a model-guzzler. One must give the model a spirit. "
