Kellan Lutz uses his passion for fashion as an expressive outlet

Actor Kellan Lutz is convinced adding a fragrant flair will enhance any red carpet appearance, especially at New York Fashion Week.

The 31-year-old Twilight star is currently in the Big Apple checking out all the latest styles presented by some of the world's top menswear designers, and as he devised some outfits for the occasion, the hunky blond ensured he was armed with staple accessories to wow other fashionistos.

"I always love a good cologne, but I'd have to say socks (are the most important part of red carpet attire) because when you have funky socks on, people might see it or they might not," he tells Pret-A-Reporter.

Kellan serves as an ambassador for this year's (16) New York Fashion Week: Men's event, having been granted the title by bosses at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), who have also appointed stylish sports stars Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Shaun White, actor Jerry O'Connell, model Eric Rutherford and singer Travis Mills with the role.

Kellan is honoured to have been dubbed an ambassador alongside these other dapper men, as he's had a passion for clothing since he modelled professionally in his teenage years.

"I just got a good sense of design, style, material and different brands because I'd wear it (when I was a model)," he shares. "When they asked me to become an ambassador, it felt really authentic to who I am. I love fashion. I feel like I've been out of the game for a couple years — I want to see all the new up-and-comers and my favourite brands like John Varvatos. I just really want to dive back into it."

And Kellan's passion for fashion will never wane, as he always finds new style inspiration, no matter what he's up to.

"It's definitely another out source of energy," he notes. "As I travel the world for different acting jobs or press, I get to see new styles and incorporate that into my own fashion repertoire."
