Kelly Cutrone: Kanye is nothing in fashion
Kelly Cutrone has slammed Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's lack of influence in fashion.
The fashion publicist has worked with some of the world's top brands and designers, including Vivienne Westwood, Valentino and Jeremy Scott.
Her fashion credentials have also been called upon by Tyra Banks on hit TV show America's Next Top Model, where Kelly has occupied a judging seat since 2012.
“I don’t think there’s one person who really works in the fashion industry who gives a flying f**k about Kanye West,” Kelly ranted to New York Daily News' Confidenti@l column.
"I think they have no influence in the fashion world whatsoever. I mean, most people who watch the [Keeping Up with the] Kardashians can’t afford Givenchy. I don’t mean to be mean.
"Are [counterfeiters] on Canal St. benefiting from it? Probably, but that’s not the fashion world."
While Kelly doesn't doubt Givenchy's luxury presence, she also doesn't think that wearing a gown from the fashion house is particularly hard.
The label is helmed by Riccardo Tisci, a good friend of Kim's who even dressed her for her nuptials with Kanye in May.
“There’s a movie called Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Givenchy is a good brand, but is it cutting edge? No. It’s a gazillion-year-old luxury brand from Europe," she stated.
While Kelly slams the power couple's influence on fashion, she can't deny the impact they've had in the world of showbiz.
And she even accidently offers some words of wisdom for the 33-year-old realty TV star when it comes to who she should be wearing.
“Have Kim and Kanye had an impact on pop culture? Absolutely. Do I think that [Vogue editor-at-large] Hamish Bowles wakes up in the morning, calls [former Vogue editor-at-large] André Leon Talley and says, ‘Did you see those pants that Kanye was rocking on SNL?’ No.
"The truth of the matter is that Kim Kardashian is not doing anything fresh in fashion, either. She’s not getting into the nitty-gritty, super avant-garde players. She’s not even wearing [Vivienne] Westwood yet," she added.
