Kerry Washington: Corsets were crazy
Kerry Washington says her corseted costumes for her new film Django Unchained were "ridiculous".
The actress stars as Broomhilda in the hotly-anticipated Quentin Tarantino movie. Kerry says her on-screen ensembles weren't the most glamorous - or comfortable - of pieces.
"I wouldn't necessarily call my costumes Western. They are of the pre-Civil War time period, but I don't know that they're really Western. There is a section of the film that is very much Western, but the film is a spaghetti Western placed in the context of the antebellum South. My clothes are more pre-Civil War southern," she explained to Collider.com. "The corsets were ridiculous. I was like, 'No wonder it took women so long to get the vote!'"
Although the corsets provided Kerry with enviable posture, they weren't snug in the slightest. The 35-year-old beauty - who stars alongside Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio in the film - was glad to take them off at the end of the day's filming.
"You can't eat, you can't breathe, you can't think," she added. "They're very, very restrictive. They help you sit up straight, but they're intense."
