Kerry Washington: I want to design more
Kerry Washington has been "bitten by the design bug" after working on The Limited's Scandal clothing range.
The actress' iconic alter ego Olivia Pope has become a style icon during the show's airing, and the character's outfits are now available to the public through American clothing company The Limited.
Kerry has spoken about how life-changing it was to contribute to the venture.
“It was thrilling for me,” she gushed to WWD about the design process, which was also made possible thanks to Scandal's costume designer Lyn Paolo. “I’ve fallen in love with design, from picking buttons and zippers to choosing fabrics. It would be fun to design something on my own. I’ve been bitten by the design bug.”
It isn't just Kerry who is excited by the highly-anticipated collection. The Limited's head of design Elliot Staples is also happy by the doors it has opened for the company, and spoke about how popular the range is already at an event in New York earlier this week.
“It’s a little piece of Hollywood. We have fall and holiday and we’re working on spring. After that, we’ll see. Anything is possible. We feel the opportunity is there," he smiled.
“The scale of this is so much more ambitious [than anything we've done before]. The fans of Scandal are so diehard, that’s what’s made this so exciting. We hope it sells out tomorrow [Tuesday]. There’s a fine line between too much, too little or not enough merchandise. If it sells out, it creates mystique.”
Pieces include a plaid cape coat, white three-quarter-length trousers and a white sleeveless dress with lace detail, all of which will be recognised from the programme. Prices will range from $49 to $248.
