Kidman's custom-made movie wardrobe
Nicole Kidman is as "graceful and delicate" as Grace of Monaco, says costume designer Gigi Lepage.
Costume designer Gigi Lepage pored over books, photos and films to make sure Nicole's resemblance to Grace Kelly was as close as possible.
She called on the help of top design houses to create looks that were instantly recognisable and oozed glamour.
"Nicole's entire wardrobe was custom-made. She is a wonderful person to dress - as graceful and delicate as Grace. I loved working with her," Gigi revealed to British magazine Grazia.
"Christian Dior reproduced two magnificent women's suits. Chanel collaborated with us in recreating a suit, Hermès helped us for her scarves and Kelly handbag, and for shoes we contacted Salvatore Ferragamo and Jimmy Choo."
Some of Gigi's favourite looks from the film include a gold lamé dress, a Swarovski created ball gown complete with white gloves, and a pistachio coloured twinset.
"We looked in the archives from designers in vogue during that time, like Balenciaga or Hermès, and did lots of research to antique pieces - bags, shoes and jewellery from the period.
"I had the chance to work with Philippine Pinton, granddaughter of Grace's eyewear designer François Pinton, so we reproduced a lot of sunglasses for the film," she revealed.
Nicole, 46, looks uncanny as the Hollywood star, who married Prince Rainer of Monaco in 1956, sporting Grace's trademark blonde hair and feminine style.
"In period film, the costumes become a character of their own, so attention to detail is key," Gigi added.
