Kim Cattrall: I'm no wallflower
Kim Cattrall is no "wallflower" when it comes to her personal style.
The actress explained that she likes to choose standout looks because they suit her both on and off screen.
The star, who is attending the Melbourne Cup's Ladies Day, revealed that British designer Philip Treacy is crafting a suitably fabulous headpiece for the horse racing event.
"I'm known for big and bold rather than wallflower [outfits] - that's the same with the characters I play, but it has to work in tandem with the dress," she told Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O when quizzed on her Melbourne Cup look. "I've been to [British horse race] Ascot before, I went three years ago and I just had so much fun with the dressing up and the hats. I loved it. Philip Treacy has become a good friend as a result of Sex and the City, he made a lot of the hats on the show. He'll be making my hat. I haven't found my dress yet but when I do I'm under strict instruction to send him a picture on my phone so he can start doing the hat for me."
Kim also revealed that people are often surprised if she doesn't wear the colourful and sexy outfits she became known for when she portrayed Samantha Jones on US hit show Sex and the City.
The star said that fans of the show tend to classify her looks as one of the four SATC characters' styles.
"If I go to an event like the Melbourne Cup Carnival and I'm not wearing something with an acknowledgement of sex, or that is sexy in some way, I think people get disappointed. If I turn up at an event wearing a 'Charlotte' or 'Miranda' they always comment on it. They'll say that's a 'Carrie' dress," she revealed.
