Kylie Minogue: Age is irrelevant
Kylie Minogue doesn't feel her age at all.
The 45-year-old Australian singer doesn't see age as a hurdle in her career.
The fact she and her contemporaries like Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani all manage to rack up YouTube figures in their millions for their music promos shows age is no longer relevant in society.
"I certainly don't feel it," Kylie said of her age to The New York Times. "Smoke and mirrors baby. You constantly see these stories 'look ten years younger'; '40 is the new 50'; '50 is the new 60,' who knows. We can't stop time, so you've just got to make the most of what you have."
Kylie started to develop her own image in 1991 when she moved to London and spent time in Paris. The singer was rebelling against the pop industry expectations on how she should look.
"I got into the club scene, I met all the designers, the ones I still wear today," she said. "Azzedine Alaïa, trips to the Clignancourt market and the hot-pants phase... I felt, and still feel, so inspired and liberated there. I speak enough French to get me into trouble and out of trouble."
Kylie met her long-time stylist William Baker at the Vivienne Westwood shop in London when she was 20. William was working as a sales assistant and offered to help provide clothes for Kylie's shoots. He was initially inspired by supermodels when styling the petite star.
"I always saw her as kind of iconic. She has a lightness about her. She's like champagne bubbles - effervescent glamour," William explained.
"[I introduced her to young designers] These were people I socialised and mixed with. Ties between the city's youth culture and fashion are really strong."
