Laura Carmichael partial to plaid
Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael likes transforming from "scruffy" to polished when she is attending fashion shows.
The Downton Abbey star is getting used to being invited to fashion shows, one of the biggest perks of her job as far as she is concerned. Seeing the latest collections first is a huge treat for the actress and a number of the latest ranges made a huge impact on her.
"By day I'm scruffy and wear lots of jeans and T-shirts but I enjoy playing with clothes and looking for new ideas," she told British magazine Marie Claire. “I wore one of Christopher Kane's camouflage dresses with a jumper to watch his SS14 show. I also love Erdem - so beautiful and ladylike - and Moschino is always cute; I like the tartan skirts."
Laura is less trend-driven when it comes to cosmetics. She has picked up many tips from professional make-up artists over the years and has realised less is more when it comes to what suits her.
"My eyelashes are long - but very blonde. So I always wear mascara and I like a light foundation like Giorgio Armani Beauty. Aveda's Pure Abundance range is lovely and feel clean - my hair has a natural wave in it and I quite often just leave it," she said.
As well as looking up to designers, there are some stars who make Laura reconsider her look. She is a music buff and would love to look more like the sisters who make up US band Haim.
"Haim make me want to grow my hair long and start playing electric guitar," she giggled. "I went to see them recently and they're so cool. I also love the new Arctic Monkeys album AM. Alex Turner is an incredible poet and his lyrics are funny and sexy."
