Laverne Cox has been showing off her legs in denim shorts this season.

The transgender actress has become both an icon for the trans community and also for her fashion choices.

The love she's received hasn't gone unnoticed by Laverne herself, and it's made the 31-year-old more daring with her clothes.

"I feel better so I've been wearing denim shorts a lot this summer," she smiled to British newspaper Metro. "In the winter I wear leggings because jeans are not the most comfortable for me. But my stylist just found me some great DL jeans that are long enough. I love T-shirts but when I do media, I want to be a little more glamorous."

Her flamboyant nature is evident when she steps on to the red carpet, wearing stunning pieces by Michael Costello and Carmen Marc Valvo in recent months.

She's happy to show off her womanly curves and toned figure, which Laverne admits is down to a change in diet and not excessive exercise.

"I haven't worked out in months but I've been trying to get back to the gym," she confessed. "When I do go, I stretch, do the elliptical and sometimes the treadmill. I had a personal trainer earlier this year and we did a lot of light weights.

"I've been eating better. I've been seeing a nutritionist: diabetes runs in my family and I love sugar so I'm on a low-glycemic diet."
