Leighton keeps it casual on stage

Leighton Meester doesn't like wearing costumes on stage as she feels more comfortable in her own clothes.

The American star has recently made the transition from actress to successful singer. She released her debut album Heartstrings in October, after years of teasing fans with her vocal talents.

Performing on stage is now a frequent occurrence for Leighton, and when she's singing to crowds she prefers to be comfortable rather than dressed up in restrictive clothes. This means she bucks the trend for wearing elaborate or overtly sexy costumes.

"I don't know if it goes along with the sound or not, but I think at this point at my life, music or not, I'm just going to be comfortable. Especially when it comes to playing, I don't want to feel encumbered or stage-y or costume-y – I'd rather just be as close to myself as possible and what I like to wear," Leighton explained to Lucky magazine.

"I think it depends on the venue, but I really just like to be comfortable, is really what I've come to realise."

Leighton's pretty features and toned physique have led to her landing beauty and fashion campaigns. Last year the 28-year-old fronted a shoot for Naf Naf and she was also announced as the new face of luxury skincare brand Biotherm.

“What I love about Biotherm is it’s always evolving and changing and becoming more modern,” she said in a statement.

“Leighton Meester is a contemporary icon, a young star whose natural talent, energy and beauty have made her the face of a generation,” added Patrick Kullenberg, general manager of Biotherm International.
