Lily Collins: I love edgy fashion
Lily Collins believes her style has changed as she has matured.
The 24-year-old actress stars in upcoming adventure drama The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Lily underwent three months of gruelling training to get in shape for her part, but says the hardest thing was filming fight scenes in her spiked heels and tight costume.
“It’s one thing to do it in spandex workout gear, but it’s another thing to do it in an extremely short bandage dress with thigh-highs and six-inch heels," she laughed to Elle Canada's latest edition.
“I think I’ve grown up; I’m definitely kind of exploring that darker, edgier side. Never overtly sexy, though - that’s just not who I am.”
Lily is the daughter of UK rocker Phil Collins. She moved to America with her mother when she was five years old after her parents divorced. Lily has just finished decorating her apartment in Los Angeles which she says reflects her own style perfectly.
“[I've decorated it] organic and industrial Zen. It’s soft and hard,” she explained. “It kind of describes me. I like to be hard and edgy at times but then very soft. I put a lot of thought into it.”
As the daughter of rock royalty, Lily has had the chance to mingle with fashion's A-list. She's hung out with Mario Testino and once sat down to lunch with Christian Louboutin because she was doing a school assignment about fashion.
She was also chosen by Karl Lagerfeld to wear Chanel to a debutante ball in Paris, which was featured on reality show The Hills.
Lily recently joked about her status as Hollywood royalty, imagining what she'd wear if she was a bona fide queen.
"If I was queen I'd wear something ridiculously opulent to my coronation," Lily laughed to UK magazine Stylist. "It'd be really fun just to go for it. I recently went to the Met Ball and it was punk-themed, so why not go all out and wear Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood."
