Lily-Rose Depp is following in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe as she becomes the new face of Chanel's iconic scent.

Lily-Rose Depp is the face of Chanel's No.5 L'Eau fragrance campaign.

The 16-year-old actress daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, has been selected to appear in adverts promoting the world's bestselling scent, the French fashion house announced on Monday (23May16).

Lily-Rose, who already fronts adverts for Chanel Pearl eyewear, follows in the footsteps of popular culture icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Kidman for the newest incarnation of the classic scent created by in-house perfumer Olivier Polge. Her mother Vanessa has previously been the face of Chanel's fragrance Coco.

The teenager shared her excitement at the news on Instagram: "I'm so excited to announce that I am the face of the new Chanel Number 5 L'EAU!" she captioned a picture of herself holding a giant bottle of the fragrance.

And speaking about the ingenue, Chanel said in a statement: "She (Lily-Rose) embodies her generation and its values of freedom and boldness to perfection, bringing to the iconic fragrance of the House her youthful freshness and beauty."

The campaign will be accompanied by a mini-movie in the style of Nicole Kidman's Baz Luhrmann directed short in 2005. Swedish director Johan Renck, best known for his work on music videos including the late David Bowie's Lazarus, will be at the helm for the film which is expected to premiere in the autumn (16).

It's set to be a busy year for the young actress who is already the star of three films this summer; Kevin Smith directed Yoga Hosers alongside her father, Planetarium directed by Rebecca Zlotowski, and La danseuse (The Dancer) in which she plays ill-fated dancer, Isadora Duncan.

Lily-Rose is already gaining quite the profile in the fashion world and her father Johnny has previously shared how it worries him.

"To be honest, I’m quite worried. I wasn’t expecting all this to happen to Lily-Rose, especially not at this age. But it’s her passion and she’s having fun," he told German magazine Gala.
