Lionel Richie debuts new home collection with intimate dinner
Lionel Richie is planning on building a formidable homeware brand.
Lionel Richie delighted in watching his guests eat dinner off plates he designed during a special meal he hosted at his mansion in Beverly Hills on Wednesday (7Jan16).
The Lionel Richie Home Collection is finally available for sale and in honour of the launch, the 66-year-old Hello singer served a four-course meal to guests such as actor Kevin Spacey, his daughter Nicole Richie and her husband Joel Madden.
Women's Wear Daily (WWD) reports attendees were treated to the finest food, including caviar, salad, rainbow chard risotto and lemon polenta cake. They also had access to endless glasses of champagne provided by wine brand and party sponsor Dom Pérignon.
The musician kicked off the meal with a toast, telling guests he was nervous about debuting his passion project - especially to his biggest critic, professional fashion designer daughter Nicole.
“This is really something that I do,” he smiled. “We’ve done this twice already just as a warm-up.
“The only problem I’m having out of this whole launch is that I get here, and there’s no band. In case I make a mistake, there’s no cymbal crashing."
Fortunately Richie found approval from his daughter, with the star noting: “Nicole came over and whispered in my ear, ‘Oh my God, this is good Dad'. This is the first time she’s seen it, and I got the little pat on the back, which is very comforting because she’s a tough cookie.”
Richie's girlfriend Lisa Parigi informed the outlet Richie had been designing homeware products for quite a long time.
“We’ve been working on this for two years,” she shared. “He’d get off of stage (at a concert) and say, ‘Hey, I think I have an idea.’”
The Lionel Richie Home Collection offers a host of products including glassware, dinnerware, scented candles, vases and other accessories - with each piece ranging in price from $56 to $1,000 on his company's website.
Richie would like to sell even more products in the future.
“This is just a start,” he said. “We’ll have Lionel Richie Loft and Lionel Richie Studio. In Loft we have some things for the apartment where you actually find the fun stuff, ‘Hello, is it brie you’re looking for?’ ‘Hello, is it tea you’re looking for?’ You know that kind of stuff.”
