Louis Vuitton show carousel collection

Louis Vuitton brought fairground fun to Paris Fashion Week this morning.

The Spring/Summer 12 show started promptly at 10am, unlike many of the presentations in recent weeks. Any late fashion reporters were firmly shut out one minute before it began.

The show opened with a glittering white carousel that carried his models onto a circular runway.

"It's my biggest set," designer Marc Jacobs told Vogue after the show. "I could have never done this anywhere else. Very magical, it's like a magic box: very Paris."

The collection itself fully encompassed the image of wonderland. Large puff skirts, small tailored jackets and high-cut shorts all created a dreamy world of funfair fantasy.

Whites and silver were the signature colours but these were injected with candy floss pinks, butter yellows and dolly blues.

Skirts were cut just below the knee, which gave the line an overall 50s feel. Models wore their hair in elegant chignons and completed the look with alice bands which further enhanced the retro vibe.

The clothes exuded femininity, skirts and jackets were decorated with cut-out floral designs. Ostrich feathers danced around dresses and perfectly complimented drop waists. Macramé and thick lace collars were all confirmed as this season's must have trends.

Their signature bags completed the look with pale pastel leathers and big daisy appliqués.

However, the complete collection was too sugary. The lighter tones were cut with black and navy and the laser-cut designs added a sharp edge of precision.

The models wore pointed heels with patent straps and silver toes. They carried monogrammed parasols for an extra boost of ladylike glamour. Their make-up was minimal with an emphasis on their eyes and big flirty lashes.

Kate Moss was also on hand to showcase the collection. The supermodel closed the show wearing a snow-white shift dress decorated with feathers and cut-out flowers.

"It was like a big fashion wedding cake with all those clean, pale colours," said British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman. "Really beautiful."

Miu Miu and Elie Saab will help close Paris Fashion Week today.
