Lupita Nyong'o new to fashion

Lupita Nyong'o hasn't always cared so much about style, but being in Hollywood has taught her valuable lessons in fashion.

The stunning actress has been making waves in the style world since her big screen debut in 12 Years a Slave.

The role earned her an Oscar for supporting actress, as well as the approval of fashion lovers all over the world.

During the recent awards season she graced the red carpet in gowns by Prada, Dior Couture and Ralph Lauren.

"I've not always been a huge fashion fan. I've always cared about what I look like, but with 12 Years a Slave and the tour of promotion around the world, I've been able to explore and play. I've learned a lot about presentation, actually," Lupita told British magazine Grazia.

"I never knew what the formal fashion industry was up to - it was all a mystery to me. It's all new and an exciting education. I've been introduced to a whole new world where clothing is art."

Colour blocking has been a big trend for Lupita and she normally sticks to one hue when attending an industry event.

For the Screen Actors Guild Awards she wore a stunning teal Gucci gown that fell to the floor. It had an intricate floral collar in the same colour as the dress.

The 31-year-old actress’ style inspiration is fellow Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett.

"She was the one person I looked up to, studied and referred to continually," she gushed.

Far from surrounding herself with a large entourage, Lupita trusts British stylist Micaela Erlanger to make her fashion choices. Her other celebrity clients include Michelle Dockery and Winona Ryder,

"I don't have a huge team. I have one stylist who I totally adore, Micaela Erlanger," she enthused.
