Maddie Ziegler: ‘Sia’s laidback style inspires me’
Maddie Ziegler used to love pink sparkly clothes before channeling a more relaxed, tomboy look.
Sia taught Maddie Ziegler to be relaxed about her look.
Dancer Maddie found fame after starring in the video for Sia’s hit Chandelier at 11 years old. Sia had seen the youngster on TV show Dance Moms and their collaboration paid off when the video won Best Choreography at the MTV Music Awards in 2014.
The pair has worked together on numerous occasions since then, and Maddie is constantly gleaning hints and tips from the Australian songstress.
“Sia's very relaxed all the time, and I guess I picked up on that," she told America’s InStyle. "She always wears comfy clothing, but she still looks put together. And I know she doesn't care what people think—it's cool that she wears whatever she wants to."
As well as dancing Maddie also acts and has recently brought out a clothing line too. Her namesake label reflects the 14-year-old’s personal sense of style, and is full of knitwear, graphic T-shirts and sweatpants.
“My style’s very relaxed," she shared. "If I’m just hanging out with my friends, I would wear a girlfriend or a ripped boyfriend jean with a sweater and sneakers, because I’d rather be comfortable.”
Unlike her best friend, Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown, Maddie likes to keep her look much more low key. This wasn’t always the case though, and as a child Maddie loved anything that was pink and covered in sparkles.
“I guess you would say I'm a tomboy—I like neutral tones and flannels," she shrugged.
"I would say when I was younger, I was very into pink and sparkles, like I'd wear a sparkly tank with a jean jacket and glittery flats. And I used to wear my hair in ringlet curls and pigtails. Basically, everything I wore, I'm now like, 'Ohmygod, I can't believe I wore that.' Back then, I thought I was the cutest."
