Manolo Blahnik receives unprecedented honour

Manolo Blahnik will receive a prestigious award for his work next month.

The legendary shoe designer is to be honoured with the first ever Lifetime Achievement prize at the 25th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards.

Editorial director of Footwear News, Michael Atmore, believes the footwear couturier is extremely deserving of the prize.

"Manolo has defined the modern luxury era in footwear," Michael commented in his publication. "He has remained true to himself and true to his art."

The Spanish designer's venerable career spans nearly four decades. In recognition of Manolo's contribution to fashion he has been in receipt of the FNAA's Designer of the Year award twice in 1992 and 2003 and was inducted into their hall of fame in 1997.

"I do what I do and that's it. It's nice I make people happy," Manolo said when he received his first FNAA award. "If I only do that in my life, it's great, even if it is only a stupid pair of pumps."

Manolo has the same sentiments about his work today. Designing continues to be a great source of inspiration for him.

"I love what I'm doing. I've always loved it," Manolo told Footwear News recently.

The Footwear News Achievement Awards will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on November 29.
