Mary-Kate Olsen: Handbag line is thrilling

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are excited about their new handbag line because it is still evolving.

The star has clothing line Elizabeth and James with her twin sister Ashley.

On Wednesday evening the design duo held a cocktail party in the penthouse of the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood to celebrate the fall launch of the label's handbag collection.

“It’s the first new category we’ve done in-house and we’ve been able to control the process, so we are excited to see where that adventure takes us,” Mary-Kate told WWD. “It takes time and it’s still evolving, but I like the product and I hope that other people will too.”

The girls have just completed the design process for their minimalistic 2014 resort collection.

Ashley is looking forward to taking a two-week vacation after finishing the line.

“I want to hang out with my friends whom I feel like I haven’t seen in forever," Ashley explained. "I need that time to relax so I can think ahead and focus on the future. When you get so busy and bogged down in day-to-day you forget to think about the next steps, so time off really helps me reset.”

US InStyle magazine editor Ariel Foxman was also present at the launch party.

She explained why the publication has decided to run a special feature on the Elizabeth and James line in their July issue.

“We knew sight unseen the product would be great,” Ariel gushed. “The girls have really transcended being actresses who design clothes to being bona fide designers".

As well as being talented in the handbag field, the twins are also skilled at other accessories. They are the creative directors of shoe brand Superga and have recently worked on a film that shows people wearing the casual footwear while out and about.

Entitled If These Shoes Could Talk, several wearers reveal what they love about the brand in the clip.
