Melissa McCarthy ignores negativity
Melissa McCarthy doesn't think she should be put into a certain category based on her weight.
The Bridesmaid actress has caught people's attention by being larger than an average Hollywood star. However, she doesn't think her success in comedy has anything to do with her shape.
"Why does everything always have to be put into categories?" she questioned German newspaper Bild.
"I just take comments like that on the chin, whatever they're supposed to mean."
The 43-year-old is known for appearing in funny films, with her latest being road trip comedy Tammy. In real life she doesn't take herself too seriously either, meaning she was able to laugh off an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.
"I was on the way to work and my trousers fell down!" she recalled, laughing. "It happened in front of a load of workmen.
"Something was pulling at my clothes. I thought it was all the bags I was carrying, but when I looked down, I realised my sweater was tucked into my Spanx control pants! My actual pants were down by my ankles."
While Melissa might not be bothered by weight issues, she can't say the same for the rest of Hollywood. She's even been in situations where finding a red carpet outfit was near to impossible.
“When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed. Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers - very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people - and they all said no,” Melissa told the July issue of Redbook magazine.
