Michelle Monaghan happy to age

Michelle Monaghan found it "funny" how much she looked like her mom in True Detective.

The actress starred as Woody Harrelson's onscreen wife in the TV drama, which also featured Matthew McConaughey in a lead role. It spans from 1995 to 2012, which means the 38-year-old had to wear some ageing make-up in certain scenes.

"I looked like my mom!" she laughed to British magazine Stylist. "I had a short bob, I'd aged - gracefully, my mom is a lovely woman who has aged well.

"[Director] Cary Fukunaga and Nic [Pizzolatto, writer] said to me, 'Are you sure you're OK ageing? A lot of actors may not want to see that.' I was like, 'Yes, of course I'm OK. I don't want to be 60 tomorrow, but I welcome the opportunity to play that character.' But it was very funny to see my mom in myself."

While filming the eight-part series, Michelle found out she was expecting her second child with husband Peter White. They already had daughter Willow together and son Tommy was born in October last year. The star decided not to tell anyone about her pregnancy on set.

"I actually had easy pregnancies, so I was lucky," she smiled. "I was supposed to be ageing, so I was getting older, my butt was getting bigger. I didn't tell anybody, I think everybody just thought I was being method. 'She's come back two weeks later, 15lbs heavier.' 'It's OK, she's meant to be 50!'"
