Miley Cyrus' lip-gloss nostalgia

Miley Cyrus was adamant about creating a lip-gloss for MAC because she knew it would appeal to her younger sister.

The 22-year-old singer is the line's brand ambassador and has created two products for the role, with 100 per cent of the sales profits going to the MAC AIDS Fund.

One of the star's offerings is a shimmery pink lipgloss, which Miley created with her 14-year-old sister Noah in mind.

"When I was a kid, lipgloss was all my dad [singer Billy Ray Cyrus] let me wear; he was like, 'No mascara, no anything.' But I'd get away with lipgloss - even if it was blue, he'd let me wear it," she explained to British magazine Glamour. "It was just a pop of something fun. That's why I wanted to do a gloss for my younger fans, and my 14-year-old sister was my tester. I wanted it to feel like ten million liquefied disco balls."

Miley's other product is a bold pink lipstick and as soon as she landed the role with MAC she knew she wanted it to feature in her line. It's a shade which instantly makes the singer happy, and it's a quick way for her to look like she's made a big effort with her appearance.

"I don't wear a lot of make-up, but I do love lipstick. It's fun, and you don't need much else other than a crazy lipstick; it makes you feel good but doesn't cover up who you are," she said. "Pink is my favourite colour, so the Viva Glam lipstick was always going to be the hottest, brightest pink possible. I obsessively created this shade and kept going back and forth, but it had to be the colour that was most me."

Miley loves talking about fashion and beauty and has become known for her outlandish outfits. She ramped those up a gear when she cropped her hair and dyed it blonde in 2012, but she is careful about what she chooses to put on. For one thing Miley has no interest in looking like anyone else, which is why she's taken a different approach with her manicures of late.

"I used to do all that stuff [nail art], but now everyone is wearing those pointy nails. I don't like to look like everyone else, so I just do nothing - no polish at all, just natural, short nails," she said.
