Miley won’t be labeled

Miley Cyrus feels lucky that she can express her "imagination" in the way she presents herself.

The former Disney star has undergone a drastic style transformation, deciding to cut off her long locks last year.

These days the 20-year-old sports a semi-shaved 'do and is always pushing the boundaries by wearing tiny outfits and performing provocative dance routines.

While many stars clip in extensions to make their locks as long and luscious as possible, Miley won't be doing the same anytime soon.

"I’m trying to break out of that long hair, big boobs stereotype that women feel they have to conform to. I mean, we’re not living in the freakin’ 1950s – short hair is OK," she argued to British newspaper The Daily Mail.

"Have people really got so little imagination? Every morning I look in the mirror and I feel like a blank canvas and I choose who I want to be. In a normal job you have to live by someone else’s rules, but I’m in a job where my work is play and I don’t have to pretend to be something I’m not."

The singer recently confirmed her split from former fiancé Liam Hemsworth and it's thought it could partly be down to his not being able to deal with her new image.

Miley admits it took her nearest and dearest some time to get used to her daring look.

"Yeah, when I did it my mom was shocked at first and tripped out – I mean, she’s got the whole long blonde hair thing going on – but now she loves it and wouldn’t have me with it any other way," she explained.

It's not just Miley's hair that has grabbed headlines - the star has also caused a stir with her tiny outfit and nudity in the video that accompanies her track Wrecking Ball.

While other people might have problems with her flesh baring, Miley feels happy with what she's doing.

"I’m very confident being naked... I feel that stripping off is a way of expressing purity of emotion," she said.

"Sure, I could put on a gown and have some beauty pictures taken of me, but where’s the honesty in that? In my video for Wrecking Ball I am naked and vulnerable and crying because it’s a song about how it feels when everything around you has been destroyed."
