Morissette's fun new look

Alanis Morissette has switched up her hairstyle in the hope it will help her overcome "work addiction".

The 40-year-old singer has had the same hairstyle for years - long brunette locks, parted down the middle. But now the star has made a big change, lightening her mane and chopping it to just above the shoulders.

She shared a snap of her new 'do on Instagram, and added that she feels like a changed woman since making the decision to switch things up.

"new hair. girl needed to have a little fun ;) ps-- blondes are, in fact, treated differently. this is one of the many effects of work addiction recovery :) #spontaneity #easybreezy #makeupforlosttime #healing (sic)," she captioned the shot.

Alanis, who will always be known for hits such as Ironic, recently admitted her showbiz lifestyle caused her to suffer post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It's a condition soldiers or victims of abuse often have to deal with. It seems Alanis is using her new look to help her through a tough time.

"Traumatised because I think that on some level, becoming famous and wanting fame, there's some trauma," she explained in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"The traumatised person, in this case, me, gets traumatised by the thing I thought would be the balm. I thought that everything would be helped and soothed and healed by fame."

Alanis was last snapped at an event in California in June, where she was still rocking her old hair colour and some cute orange high heels.
