Nicole Richie: I dress for my mood

Nicole Richie dresses depending on "her mood".

The TV star never plans outfits but waits to see how she feels on the day.

Describing herself as an "emotional dresser", she added that her look can make her feel better or worse.

"What I wear depends on my mood. I don't plan outfits - I'm an emotional dresser. If I'm not confident in what I'm wearing then you can see it all over my face," she told the latest edition of UK magazine Elle. "As far as the clothing goes, I take my cue from the 1960s and 1970s when there were no rules - you could mix any fabrics, colours or prints."

Nicole also remembered one of her favourite ever red carpet gowns.

The mother-of-two said if a dress is beautiful, she doesn't mind making concessions to comfort or flexibility when wearing it.

"Some dresses are memorable. Julien Macdonald's gowns are breath-taking. I wore a stunning blush-coloured gown of his to the Museum of Contemporary Art gala in Los Angeles last year. It was not a good dancing dress but, hey, sometimes you have to make sacrifices for fashion," she said.
