Nikolaj Coster-Waldau talks fitness in your 40s
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is focusing on his "mobility" now he's no longer in his 20s.
The Danish actor needs to keep on top of his fitness levels for his part as the muscly Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones.
He's in much better shape that most people are at 44, but the hunky star has noticed how his fitness has changed over the years.
"Over the next few months, I'm going to start bulking up, so I'm concentrating on the fundamentals - heavy deadlifts, heavy squats," he explained to Men's Health magazine.
"But as I've grown older, I spend more time on mobility. When you're 20, your body has the ability to bounce back. These days I have a lot of different massage balls I use to loosen up."
However, he concedes that he also feels stronger than he ever has before.
Of course working out is just part of the process - Nikolaj also relies on a healthy diet, packed with protein. At first he was sceptical, but soon realised how essential it is to bulking up.
"You read about how much protein certain people eat and hear people talk about it at the gym," he said. "But it's not until you experience the results that you really understand.
"I've always exercised hard and thought I ate healthily, so I assumed muscle would come. But if you want to bulk up, trust me, you do really need to eat a sh*tload of protein."
Nikolaj even gave an insight into his meal plan, which includes plenty of eggs, salmon and vegetables.
