Octavia Spencer: Red carpet style is tricky
Octavia Spencer finds red carpet dressing difficult.
The 41-yearold actress received a Palm Springs Film Festival Breakthrough Performance Award for her role in The Help last week.
Finding the right gown for the awards ceremony was a challenge.
"I'm just a short chubby girl," Octavia told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's hard for me to find a dress to wear to something like this! It's a lot of pressure, I'll tell ya. No designers are coming to me!
"Maybe I should have sworn off peanut butter last year instead of this year."
Despite her reservations, Octavia looked stunning in her flattering designer attire.
Although she loved dressing up in the glamorous clothes, the star wore shoes from her own closet to add a personal touch.
"One of the best things about awards shows are you get to wear clothes you would never get to wear," she explained.
"I'm wearing a [long, black, caftan-style sleeved] David Meister gown, my bag is Judith Leiber and my jewellery is Neil Lane. [I'm wearing] my most comfortable shoes [from my closet], I wasn't taking any chances."
The Help - also starring Emma Stone - was released last year.
