Olivia Palermo: Beauty is knowledge

Olivia Palermo doesn't like her hair and make-up to "mask" who she is.

The 29-year-old has often spoken about her beauty regime and is happy to tell all about her favourite products. However, what she's most interested in is the way inner wellbeing shows via the skin.

"My ethos is that you need to take care of your skin so you feel and look nourished. The best compliment you can receive is that you look well rested," she told British newspaper The Telegraph.

"Beauty can transform you, but it should be about having fun and feeling confident. Make-up and hairstyles shouldn't mask who you are but bring out the best of who you are. Beauty to me is intelligence and wisdom."

Olivia looks to the past for inspiration when it comes to her hair and make-up, and she cites Anna Karina as one person she loves to emulate.

Her mother Lynn also makes her want to make the most of the cosmetics at her disposal, with Lynn the one who sparked Olivia's initial interest.

"My earliest 'beauty memory' is my mom putting on her make-up. It was Bobbi Brown and its fragrance always makes me think of her. Fashion and beauty give me endless inspiration. My appreciation started through my mother at a young age," she said.

The star listed a few of her beauty essentials too, which include Elnett hairspray and a concentrated product by upmarket Crème de la Mer which comes in at a costly £330. Olivia calls it the "ultimate dose of hydration" and also likes a toning mist to keep her face feeling fresh.
