Parkas go acidic bright

Parkas have been around for several seasons now, and look set to stick about for a little while longer.

While you can get away with reusing your season’s old one this year, it’s always more fun to reinvest and there are plenty of updated styles on the market.

The biggest thing that’s changing with Fall/Winter 11 parkas is the colour. Deep greens and blacks are still wearable, but the truly fashion forward will be going for something a bit brighter. One of the best takes on the trend was on the Dolce & Gabbana catwalk, where a model strutted the runway in a black thigh-length parka with a hot pink inlay.

CNC opted for purple versions of the coat, while Bottega Veneta went all out with a canary yellow furry number.

Not all trends are that wearable, but this is one which really does suit everyone. Parkas can be thrown over leggings and big jumpers pared with slouchy boots for a casual day look, but these bright versions work just as well in the evening. Thick tights, a pinafore dress and T-bar sandals look fantastic with the jacket, and you can also go grungy by pairing them with a denim mini and pair of converse trainers.
