Patrick Demarchelier: My dog photographs well
Patrick Demarchelier knows people "expect" his favourite portrait to be of Britain's Diana, Princess of Wales, but in fact it is of his dog Puffy.
The French fashion photographer has an illustrious career that spans almost three decades. Patrick has photographed some of the world's most recognised stars, including the late Princess Diana and Christy Turlington. He's also shot international advertising campaigns for a number of high-end labels including Christian Dior, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.
However, the 68-year-old remains firmly grounded when it comes to his portfolio.
"When people ask me which is your favourite portrait they expect it to be Diana, or someone famous. But the answer is my dog, Puffy. They think I mean Puff Daddy. No, it is the dog," he explained in an interview with British newspaper The Telegraph.
"You know, I don't care who I shoot. Sometimes, I do not know who they are."
Patrick loves his career, not least that it gives him a fabulous income. He appreciates the renowned jobs he is offered.
"I do weddings again. I just did the wedding in Monaco, the Prince [Albert] and Princess [Charlene]. And the Formula One guy, Bernie Ecclestone's daughter who got married in Rome. This was amazing. Almost better than Monaco. There was so much money" he mused.
Patrick has photographed new book Dior Couture which showcases the luxe label through the ages. He was honoured to photograph such elegantly classic garments.
"Photographers have to make the clothes look fantastic, that's why we get paid. And I have positive eyes," he said. "But with clothes like this, couture, it is easy. Because they are so beautiful already."
