Paula Patton: Childhood fashions were garish

Paula Patton's childhood style experiments were "way too garish" to leave the house in.

The stunning star loved to play dress-up as a youngster, but admits her creations left a lot to be desired at times.

Although her mother encouraged her interest in fashion and make-up, she never allowed Paula to step out wearing it.

"My mom would go to vintage stores, hand-me-down stores, and bring back these inexpensive adult clothes," she explained to People.

"And it was fun to use make-up - but the make-up I'd do [my mom] would never let me leave the house with. It was way too garish for ten years old!"

Paula likes to use minimal cosmetics when it comes to her everyday look. The Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol star prefers to face the day feeling refreshed with the help of a few products.

"I put a little on every day, regardless of if I'm going to be on camera or not. It makes me feel like I'm ready to face the day. Having a little one in the house [son Julian, 20 months] you're always tired, so making yourself look less tired is a good thing," she revealed.

"I always love a lip. A berry colour, or even a soft nude. Plus a little colour on my cheeks. It makes such a big difference on your face, and lets your eyes come through. Colours that are bright affect my mood, and put me in a happier place."

Paula has revealed her top tip to always looking glamorous. The 36-year-old actress says laughing is key to radiating beauty.

"I think it affects the way you look overall," she said. "I don't know how many people are getting ten hours of sleep a night, but you find someplace within and let that [beauty] emanate outward.

"I like junk food like everybody else. But you also have to drink a lot of water, have your greens."
