Pharrell creates fragrance

Pharrell Williams is teaming up with Comme des Garçons to create a fragrance.

The musician is teaming up with Japanese fashion house Comme des Garçons to create a unique fragrance called Girl, named after his latest record G I R L.

WWD reports this fragrance will mark the first time head of the company Rei Kawakubo has teamed up with a music star to create a scent.

Pharrell has always been a fan of the brand and feels lucky to have been a part of their team.

“As one of my favourite designers once said, ‘Comme des Garçons is your favourite designers’ favourite designer… the top of the top, the best of the best,’” Pharrell explained to the website. “I am so honoured to be working with Comme des Garçons and cherish the education that I’ve experienced in this collaboration.”

Adrian Joffe, chief executive officer of Comme des Garçons Parfums SA, worked with Pharrell during the creative process. He was impressed to see Pharrell “knew exactly what he wanted the perfume to smell like right from the beginning.”

Adrian also enjoyed the opportunity to join forces with such a successful name.

“It has been an honour to work with such a creative artist with a great vision,” Adrian added.

This venture is one of many for Pharrell.

It was last year the singer-and-producer created a line of sunglasses with French label Moncler. Even when designing these pieces, made from one single piece of titanium, Pharrell looked to Rei for inspiration.

“These days when it comes to design I’m about silhouette and functionality first. What’s more important – the T-shirt or the label plastered across it?” he previously explained to British magazine Grazia.

“Just think about [founder of label Comme des Garçons] Rei Kawakubo - she’s a genius. She proves you don’t need to cover your designs in a label because the silhouette tells you exactly who made it.”
