Pharrell Williams feels inspired by Céline’s creative director.
The rapper is not just a big name in the music industry, but has also made his name on the fashion pack with his labels Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear.
He’s now revealed that there’s a certain French designer who inspires him creatively.
“Céline’s Phoebe Philo,” he answered style.com when asked about inspiration.
“I would love to get to see her show in Paris. I think she is a genius, and I love the detail and attention she puts into her work.”
Pharrell’s latest creative project sees him collaborate with artist Daniel Arsham, who has made replicas of instruments used by the star out of volcanic ash, rusted steel, crystal and carbon dust.
It’s been unveiled amid the New York Fashion Week hype, but Pharrell insists it wasn’t intentional.
“I don’t think you go into a project thinking that. More than anything else, you consider the visibility, but you don’t work backwards, thinking, ‘Oh, my god, we are going to blow everyone away,’” he said.
“It’s more about appreciating the impetus, and the genesis of it is the most important thing. We start with one great first cause, and everything else is reactionary and an effect. There are people who do projects the other way, but those are the ones we ignore and walk past. You can smell the ambition in it.”
Pharrell has been spotted enjoying the excitement of New York Fashion Week while hanging out in the city.
While he has no style projects coming up, he might entertain guests with a surprise musical show.
“No, not at all. Maybe a secret performance or two, but that’s it. I am here as a spectator, and I’m just going to be here to enjoy the week. I have some other work to do in New York that doesn’t involve fashion week,” he clarified.
