Pharrell launching SpongeBob line

Pharrell Williams is set to launch his own line of SpongeBob SquarePants clothes.

The American musician is using his favourite cartoon character as the focus for a new collection of sweatshirts and T-shirts for streetwear site Karmaloop.

Pharrell launched his own brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream in 2005 so this collection will add to his already successful fashion empire.

He collaborated with the home of the yellow sponge, kids channel Nickelodeon, to create the pieces and is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to launch such a quirky collection.

"I've been a SpongeBob fan for many years and it's an honour to collaborate with Nickelodeon to create SpongeBob X ICECREAM. SpongeBob promotes happiness and optimism and I wanted this line to represent that," Pharrell said in a statement.

Pharrell has frequently been seen wearing items with SpongeBob on them, including canary yellow sneakers with the cartoon character imprinted on the side, socks and various T-shirts from other lines.

The items will be available on Karmaloop and Billionaire Boys Club stores from tomorrow.

This latest venture follows his announcement confirming he is to launch his own fragrance in the near future. He recently talked about the process behind creating the scent and compared it to forming a piece of art.

"I create based on what I feel like is missing. You jump in and follow your gut. It's like a sculpture - you're just adding on more clay, you're chiselling away and adding on until you feel like it's done, and you stand back and go, 'Oh! It's a person,'" he told Details magazine.
