Pharrell Williams is fashion icon
Pharrell Williams follows in the footsteps of Rihanna as this year's CFDA Fashion Icon.
The Happy singer is synonymous with slick style and oversized hats, which hasn't gone unnoticed by the organisation.
Now he's responded to the news that he'll receive the honour for 2015.
"Wow. Thank you! ?@CFDA: And the 2015 Fashion Icon Award goes to... @pharrell! #CFDAAwards (sic)," the 41-year-old tweeted.
Pharrell is in pretty good company in winning the title. Last year Rihanna picked up the award, while other past winners include Johnny Depp, Iman and Lady Gaga.
This year's selection was a no-brainer for CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg.
“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness,” she gushed to WWD. “I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him.”
Pharrell has certainly used fashion as a way of expressing himself over the years, paying no heed to what others make of his style. He encourages others to adopt the same attitude with their wardrobe choices.
"Style is being able to wear what you want to wear because it makes sense to you," he recently argued to the American edition of GQ magazine. "I mean, when something is good it's just good.
"This is your life, I mean you can't let anyone else direct your life - your life is your movie and that's where the quality comes in. You should be able to do whatever it is that you want to do. As long as you're not harming anyone else why shouldn't you be able to express yourself."
