Prada show powerful collection
Miuccia Prada's newest menswear collection is a play on "power."
The house held their Fall/Winter 12/13 runway show in Milan yesterday.
The unique showcase featured Hollywood actors who agreed to model Prada fashions. Adrien Brody, Tim Roth, Jamie Bell, Garrett Hedlund, Emile Hirsch, Gary Oldman and Willem Defoe were the venerable men that fashion director Miuccia Prada hired to wear her clothes.
"It's about power. But it started with the idea of characters," Miuccia told the New York Times newspaper backstage at the event. "[The show] was a parody of power."
Adrien wore a rich knee-length red coat while Gary donned a black morning coat on the catwalk.
The red carpet that compiled the runway mimicked a palazzo mosaic and was laid out like a game of chess.
The elegant garments were adorned with a wide range of ornaments, including medals and flowers on lapels. Eveningwear was more dandyish, harkening back to the 1890s with silk smoking jackets.
Miuccia updated classical tailoring, redefining linear formal coats, outerwear and styles worn by men of power for centuries.
