Pregnant Kerry Washington nails maternity chic at Emmy Awards
Modern Family starlet Sarah Hyland mixed things up with her ensemble for the Emmy Awards on Sunday night (18Sep16), opting for a corset and trousers rather than a gown.
Kerry Washington didn't let her growing baby bump get in the way of looking fierce at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night (18Sep16), opting for a stylish and sexy cut-out gown.
The Scandal actress is expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha, and put a whole new spin on maternity chic as she posed on the red carpet in a custom Brandon Maxwell gown.
While the black hue was subtle compared to some of the other garish shades chosen for gowns at the ceremony, Kerry made up for that with two cut-outs across the abdomen.
The 39-year-old teamed the strapless dress, which also featured a cape back, with Gianvito Rossi heels and Fred Leighton jewels, while leaving her naturally curly hair loose and wildly free.
Despite looking undoubtedly chic on the red carpet for the awards, Kerry wasn't the only star to cause a stir with her ensemble.
Gowns were everywhere, but one person shunning the traditional awards ceremony garb was Modern Family star Sarah Hyland. The 25-year-old appeared to have taken some tips from Harry Potter actress Emma Watson by opting for a longline floral corset top from Monique Lhuillier, complete with a train back, over a pair of black pants.
Speaking about the look, which was styled by Brad Goreski, Sarah told People Style: "Brad Goreski came to me and goes, Let’s talk Emmys! He said how do you feel about pants? And I said I love pants. He said can we make the pants black? And they made them in black. It’s not as hot as it’s been in the past couple years, so I’m holding onto that."
Sarah teamed her look with a pair of Lorraine Schwartz statement earrings, but admitted: "The earrings are really heavy and my ears aren’t pierced."
The pretty brunette wasn't the only famous face to go for a floral look, with Bad Moms actress Kristen Bell wowing in her Zuhair Murad. The mother-of-two, who was a presenter at the ceremony, admitted her full-skirted, plunging gown was a change in style for her, but told the New York Times: "I wanted to do something more whimsical than I’ve done before."
One person who grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons though was Claire Danes. While her gold Schiaparelli Couture gown was undoubtedly stunning, it was her unusually orange skin that got people talking, with some even cruelly comparing her to U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
