Rachel Bloom: 'Now I know what I look good in'
The creator and star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is slowly finding her signature style.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star and creator Rachel Bloom was one of the standouts on the red carpet at the Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday (12Dec16) but she insists she struggled to find her own style.
She has taken some previous fashion risks, and not all have won top style marks, including the suit and piano tie she wore to the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in September (16), but now the 29-year-old, who became famous almost overnight last year (15) when her musical TV comedy became an immediate hit, is learning what looks good on her.
“Before, I had no sense of what my personal tastes were,” she tells People, "but now I am understanding what I like to wear, what I look good in and (how to) still be comfortable with the combination of having a stylist and being exposed to all these different clothes on the show.”
Last year Rachel won Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the event and though she wasn't nominated in the same category this year, she was thrilled to appear as a presenter. She told the magazine she "played dress up last night", checking out her custom black sequined Christian Siriano mini-dress with cut-out shoulder details.
“I love this dress,” she raved about her outfit. “I’ve never worn anything like it!”
Though she is finding her own style, Rachel still relies on her stylist, Annabelle Harron, for an expert opinion on what looks best on her.
“I like to defer to smarter people who are experts in their field to give me stuff to put on,” she smiled.
When not on the red carpet, Rachel's preferred day-to-day look is much more low-key.
Jeans and a nice, comfortable blouse, a nice comfortable top, and some earrings and mascara," she says. "Not completely giving up on life, but being myself.”
