Red shows add festive cheer

Bring some festive cheer to your feet this season with red Dorothy-inspired shoes.

Everyone remembers the iconic ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

Now designers are bringing the shoes out of the Emerald City and straight into your winter wardrobe. The look is perfect to brighten up any outfit over the holiday season.

Prada's version of the shoe is a simple Mary-Jane in scarlet suede. It boasts a chunky heel and the strap fastens with a jolly round buckle. The label added a further flourish of girlish charm on the runway with cream knee-length socks.

Antonio Marras gave the look a modern twist by adding a large platform toe and creating the shoe with bold, bright leather.

To get the trend choose a platform, Mary-Jane or court shoe depending on which is most comfortable for you. Pick a festive red to bring some warmth to your overall look and get the true Dorothy style.

Accessorise the footwear with neutral garments. For a day look pick skinny blue denim and a black polo neck to ensure your feet are the centre of attention.

For the evening pair them with a flouncing miniskirt and pretty white socks for a feminine Christmas outfit.
