Rihanna avoids tattoo disaster with Bang Bang's advice
Celebrity tattoo artist Keith 'Bang Bang' McCurdy has spoken about his special relationship with Rihanna, one of his biggest clients.
Celebrity tattoo artist Keith 'Bang Bang' McCurdy performed one of the biggest fixes of his career on singer Rihanna's body.
Keith has been working with Rihanna for around a decade, tattooing many of the 27 year old's markings, which now total to over 20.
Although the Disturbia pop star is considered to be the epitome of perfection by many, this was not the case when she sought Keith's help to mend a sloppy inking.
“The tattoo that that needed the most work for me was Rihanna’s hand,” he recalled to Page Six. “We did a bit of a cover-up on a Maori-style tribal tattoo that was on her hand – now it looks more like a henna tattoo.
"It wasn’t done … in a way that was really flattering to her and it needed to be beautiful."
When it comes to tattoos, Rihanna relies heavily on Keith's guidance and she even wrote a caption in his new book BANG BANG: My Life In Ink detailing why he is so special to her.
“When you’re well-known, it can be hard knowing who to trust, but I trusted Bang Bang from the first time he tattooed me,” she wrote in the foreword.
Rihanna is wise to listen to Keith, as she avoided a cosmetic disaster by taking his advice.
“We almost did a broken guitar on Rihanna’s forearm once with a pair of underwear hanging from it,” he told Page Six. “I let her leave with the stencil and I said, ‘Why don’t you wear that stencil for a few days and call me if you still like it?’ Thankfully we didn’t end up doing that one.”
Over the years Keith has cultivated a client list which sees him tattooing hip, young Hollywood celebrities including Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner and Katy Perry, but he has his sights set on working with older talent.
“Obama and Oprah," he said of his dream clients. "I’ve kind of tattooed everybody already. I always thought Oprah needed a heart tattoo because she has such a big one and I think Obama needs an American flag or something for his two daughters …I’m ready – I’m sure he can get my number.”
